Employees: Know your rights when it comes to your wages

Employees expect to be compensated -- and compensated fairly -- for work they have performed. Workers across California depend on the money in their paycheck, so it is crucial that this money is paid and that wages are in compliance with state regulations.

Preventing social media misconduct by employees

It seems that more and more Americans are connecting with one another via social media sites. Although some sites skew older and some skew younger, many Americans make regular use of at least one social networking site. These virtual spaces can provide an excellent outlet for educating the public about issues, rallying individuals to action, keeping in touch and unleashing various forms of creative expression. For better and for worse, many individuals use these sites at work and many individuals use these sites to discuss various issues related to their employment.

Employment discrimination law continues to evolve

We frequently write about various developments in employment law at both state and federal levels. It is important for attorneys, employers and workers alike to remain educated about advancements in employment law, as failure to foster such awareness can lead to injustices. For example, if employers are not aware that workers have been granted new legal protections, they may unintentionally infringe upon them. Similarly, if workers are unaware of their rights under the law, they may be more easily taken advantage of.

Be careful when responding to breastfeeding discrimination

The law generally protects women against sex discrimination generally and against pregnancy discrimination specifically. Certain pregnancy discrimination laws extend to women who are breastfeeding or who are experiencing pregnancy-related challenges. Recently, the Affordable Care Act and various state laws have insisted that lactating women may not only be discriminated against due to their situation, they must generally be given a clean, safe, private space at work to pump breast milk other than a bathroom.
